Brian rides hot streak as Burt, Brach's, and Ricky look for luck at Sears Point
(Sonoma, CA) 21 August 2008 – Brian Frisselle has packed his bags for the trip west, and beyond the normal checklist of some clean balaclava and a driver suit, the young Rolex racer will also be packing plenty of confidence as he looks to extend his race winning streak to three in a row in Saturday’s Armed Forces 250 at Infineon Raceway.
On the other side of the Frisselle Racing tent is Brian’s brother Burt Frisselle, who will be sharing the No. 47 Brachs/CDOC Ford-Dallara prepared by Doran Racing with co-driver Ricky Taylor for the car’s final scheduled race appearance of the 2008 season. The duo have shown great promise in the Brach’s-liveried racer since the pair first joined forces at Mid-Ohio in June to deliver the No. 47 Dallara’s best result of the year at that point.
In the most recent round of Rolex competition at Watkins Glen for the bright yellow Brach’s Dallara, a frustrating first lap spin meant that the two played catch up the rest of the way during the sprint distance race, which never gave them enough laps to make the trip back up the order. But for youthful drivers like Frisselle and Taylor, optimism comes easily, as the two have not only gelled well as a driver pairing, but they have also continued to make great progress with the Dallara, which has fewest competition miles of the Daytona Prototypes in Rolex competition.
The partnership with Brach’s, which commenced with a trip North to Montreal, has seen the distinctive yellow machine in action at Watkins Glen and will now made a west cost debut on the 2.47-mile circuit as part of the IndyCar Series event.
“Every week we roll off the trailer faster, and we’re getting closer and closer with this Brach’s car,” said Burt. “It’s frustrating not to have some results to show that yet, but we know if we just keep on this path and can stay out of trouble, that will come--hopefully this weekend!”
While Burt is hoping to make a big impression in the final scheduled run of the year in the No. 47, his brother Brian is focused on just one thing as he and co-driver Wilkins are looking to keep their hot streak going with another race win at Infineon.
“It’s really an awesome feeling,” said Brian about the run of dual race successes. “Just no words to describe it. And it’s been nice to get a chance to enjoy it, but really I’d have raced every day since the Glen if we could. You just want to get back in the car and keep doing what you are doing. And it doesn’t feel like we’ve changed anything. We’ve been strong since we led the race at the Rolex 24, were on the front row in Mexico, just been fast all year long but we had those set backs with the tire at Daytona and having a mechanical from the lead in Alabama, so we definitely felt like we were on the right path. So we just want to keep hitting our marks as team and make up as much ground as we can on the championship. The best way to do that is to win, of course.”
Saturday’s sprint race will be broadcast on SPEED at 12:00 PM Eastern.
