Frisselle Racing Returns to
Laguna Seca
Back to where it all began for brother racing duo

(Monterey, CA) 15 May 2008 – Both members of Frisselle Racing will be back in action again this weekend as the Rolex Sports Car Series re-convenes out West for the Rumbum.com 250 at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California.

Teaming with Gabrielle Gardel in the No. 47 BSI/CDOC/Anasten Plus Dallara-Ford prepared by Doran Racing for the Saturday afternoon sprint feature, the 250-mile race will see Burt Frisselle returning to the site of his professional racing debut in formula car competition.

Despite a lack of testing and track time, the Dallara entry has impressed with Frisselle and Gardel behind the wheel in the Ford-powered machine’s first two races. Frisselle scored fifth on the Mexico City grid before closing out the race with a top-ten finish and backed that up with another top ten at VIR. The Dallara-Ford could be a key part of the package this weekend as the Rolex Series takes on the 2.2-mile 11-turn Laguna Seca facility.

“It’s always great to get to race at Laguna and I’m really optimistic about this weekend,” said Burt. “It hasn’t been that long since VIR, but the short break gave us a good chance to go through what we learned in the first two races and hopefully we can put that to use this weekend.”

“There are a pair of really low speed corners that rely on mechanical grip, but there also several places where you are carrying a lot of speed at turn-in, so we’ll have to find a good compromise to get a good time this weekend. Hopefully, this car will give us an aero advantage on the fast corners. Whatever we learn here, we are going to take with us to the Glen because there are some similarities between the two.”

The track will be another new one for Gardel, who has impressed with not only his speed in the car, but also in how quickly he’s been able to adapt to the new tracks after developing his racing resume in the European arena.

But if Burt is going to take family honors on a track where the two first came to follow the sport and carry on the family tradition, he is going to have to beat his brother Brian to do so. Brian will team with Mark Wilkins in the AIM Autosport Ford-Riley, and after qualifying on the front row last weekend, will look for another top-ten finish after the two took their best result of the season so far with sixth at VIR.

"For me Laguna Seca feels a lot like a home race. When I was young my family and I would drive up from Santa Barbara to watch the Champ Car races. Then when I first started racing cars, I was living in Hawaii and competed in the Skip Barber Western Regional Championship. Laguna Seca was the primary track we used and one that I won at multiple times in both Skip Barber Regional and National competitions.

“Even though I didn’t race here last year, I know I’ll feel right home straight away. VIR was good because we were able to convert a good qualifying run into a solid points finish and most importantly we had no bad luck! So we’ll build on that again. AIM Autosport has been getting a lot of speed out of this Gold Ford-Riley, and hopefully they can work their magic again this weekend!”

The RumBum 250 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca weekend will take place on May 16-17.
