Brian Frisslle Looks To Return To Winning Ways at Watkins Glen
(Watkins Glen, NY) 11 August 2011 – As the
GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series returns
to Watkins Glen International for the Watkins
Glen 200 and Round 10 of the 2011 season,
Brian Frisselle heads back to the track that
saw him score his second-career GRAND-AM
victory.
While driving for AIM Autosport with co-driver Mark Wilkins on the Watkins Glen "shortcourse",
the duo dominated the 2008 event by starting from the pole and leading a racehigh
79 laps en route to the win.
Frisselle and Doran Racing co-driver Henri Richard return to the famed facility this
weekend after finishing sixth earlier in the year when the series competed on the track's
longer 3.4-mile circuit in the fabled 6 Hours of the Glen. GRAND-AM shares the track with
the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this weekend, and Frisselle hopes to turn the team's luck
around on the Watkins Glen 2.45-mile short course. The team suffered a disappointing
result in the previous round at New Jersey Motorsports Park when the cooling system in
the No. 77 failed while the team battled sweltering race conditions under record high
temperatures.
"We had a decently quick car at New Jersey, but it was just unfortunate that we had the
cooling issues that prevented us from really showing the potential we had with the car,"
offered Frisselle of the previous race event. "We had been smart with our strategy I
think ,and conservative with tires so we were optimistic about the race. It certainly wasn't
the result we had hoped for, but hopefully we can turn that around this weekend."
In his last four visits to the "short course" of the historic 11-turn road course, Frisselle has
started within the top-five and he looks to continue the streak this weekend with a strong
run in the No. 77 Office Depot machine.
"I always enjoy coming back to Watkins Glen," said Frisselle. "It's a challenging course with
so much history. It's fast, and the race itself is more intense at just two hours. There are
going to be some new faces in the drivers meeting, so hopefully that will help make it a
great show for the fans and hopefully we can show them the way to the podium!"
The two-day weekend begins on Friday, August 12 with practice and qualifying. The twohour
Watkins Glen 200 is slated for a 6:00 PM (ET) race start on Saturday with SPEED
carrying live coverage of the event.
