Brian Frisselle Third on Homestead Grid for Michael Shank Racing

(Homestead, FL) 05 March 2010 – Brian Frisselle will line up third on the Grand Prix of Miami grid in the No. 6 The Pit Stop on Norris Lake Ford Riley after setting a fast lap time of 1:12.079-seconds on Friday. Frisselle's time broke the existing track record, and will see him on the preferred inside line as the full field of Daytona Prototype and GT Class machines file into turn one following Saturday's 5:00 PM green flag.

"I'm happy to be qualifying on the inside," said Frisselle. "Actually last year, when I started on the outside of the front row, everyone on the team said it would have been better to start to third. So this year, I'm happy to start from the third spot on the inside. I have a car that's much more consistent on old tires, so I am a lot more confident going into this race. It's a great effort by the whole Michael Shank team. I wish I would have gotten these guys the pole. They work so hard; they're such a great group."

The sister No. 60 Crown Royal XR machine of John Pew and Oswaldo Negri will start from the sixth row after Pew set a quick time early in the session but was unable to improve late in the going.

"I was pushing pretty hard, and the car was too!" said Pew with a smile. "I had a good gap out there, and then when I caught up with the traffic, I just backed it off and tried to let the tires cool down for a lap, but they just never came back to where they were before. Even though we still have some ideas for some small changes for the set-up tomorrow, I think that we have a very good race car for the race so I'm really looking forward to it."

The pace was indeed a furious one, as the top nine cars broke the track record, with just one second covering the top ten.

"It's amazing how competitive this session was--just miss it by a tenth and it costs you two spots," said team owner Mike Shank. "I think we are in a good position with both our cars. John went faster than he's ever gone here before, and was very consistent, lap after lap, with his times so that's really encouraging for tomorrow. Brian did a great job. He and Michael are working really well together--even better than I expected. I think if you can't be on pole here, he is in the next best position for the start so hopefully we can get a good start and move up right at the green."

Round 2 of the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 season will be broadcast live on SPEED starting at 5:00 PM ET.
