Brian Frisselle Ready For Championship Challenge With Michael Shank Racing
(Columbus, OH) 01 March 2010 – The 2010 Rolex Sports Car Series season will return to action next weekend with the Grand Prix of Miami, and as the format moves from the endurance challenge of Daytona's 24 Hours to the sprint intensity of the 2.75-hour events, the focus also moves to the season-long championship standings.
Michael Shank Racing driver Brian Frisselle, who finished the 2009 season third in the championship rankings after netting six podiums and adding two wins to his career tally, is looking forward to taking the momentum from Daytona's top-ten finish and pushing up the championship standings with a strong run starting at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Frisselle, who has four Rolex Sports Car Series victories to his credit, will team with second-year Michael Shank Racing driver Michael Valiante in the No. 6 The Pit Stop on Norris Lake Ford-Riley for the South Florida race weekend.
"We are very excited about having Brian back to drive with Michael in the No. 6 car," said team owner Mike Shank. "We think we've got a really strong 1-2 punch with the driver line-up, and we showed at Daytona that this car is one to watch. Brian and Michael worked really well together and we are just looking forward to seeing what we can do this year. The No. 6 was one of the fastest cars in the paddock all year long last season and we are looking forward to getting to the sprint races and turning that speed into some points and Brian will be a big part of that."
Ever since the team took a breakthrough podium at the track in just its second Rolex Sports Car Series start (2004), Homestead Speedway has historically been a track that has seen Michael Shank Racing produce strong results. The team closed out the 2009 Rolex Sports Car Series season on Homestead's podium as the sister Ford-Riley of Ozz Negri and Mark Patterson took third in the final race of the year.
While Mike Shank looks forward to returning to the South Florida facility, he's also looking ahead to further in the season as he works to retain Frisselle and continue with a two-car Daytona Prototype program.
"We are really fortunate to have partners like Crown Royal XR on the No. 60 car, and to have The Pit Stop step up and help us have drivers like Brian and Michael on board, is key, hopefully we can generate the budget to keep everything in place for the year and have a strong run in the championship with both cars."
